I know I have done some deep philosophical musing in the last few posts. This one is a bit more practical but no less important to me. If you know me at all you know that I have become passionate about the company Young Living Essential Oils. It’s not really my style to get too hyped up about a consumer products company but what can I say? This company’s products have changed my life. More than anything, I love that they allowed me to regain control of the decisions affecting the health of my family without man-made chemicals that typically suppress rather than heal issues. None of the 4 of us has seen a doctor for anything other than a routine physical in over 3 years. Miracles in a bottle is what I often call them. Below are some of my personal testimonials to help you understand my love affair…
What are essential oils? (a brief explanation)
Essential oils are very concentrated plant extracts. Essential oils have been documented to be anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-oxidant, immune supporting, and regenerative. They are also relaxing, uplifting, enhance clarity of thought, and support emotional well-being. Each essential oil contains several to several hundred different kinds of molecules, each of which offers benefits in promoting good health, healing, and regeneration. They increase oxygen uptake, enhance absorption of nutrients, enhance longevity, and help our bodies detoxify. Essential oils support natural health because they are always working to keep the body in balance (homeostasis) as opposed to suppressing symptoms.
Since 95% of the worldʼs essential oils are created for industrial use, many of the oils found on the market, even in health food stores, are of low quality so please do not attempt to use other essential oils in the way described for Young Living products! How I got hooked…
The Raindrop Technique
I was introduced to Young Living in November 2010. I was hesitant to say the least. I went with my friend Traci to hear Mark Mincolla (my natural health guru) speak. One of the vendors at the event was a man selling Young Living products. Normally I walk right by these vendors. The only reason this Young Living vendor, Doug, got my attention was the presence of his black cocker spaniel literally asleep on the top of the table with all the products. I thought it was hilarious. I’m sure this turned some people off but for me, well, you could probably sell me swampland if there was a ‘dog’ angle to it.
Doug and I began to discuss my diagnosis. He told me that his mother had passed away from a brain tumor and that he wished he had known about Young Living when she was alive. He then suggested (insisted is a better word) that I have a ‘raindrop treatment’ done by his friend as it was a powerful detoxifier and immune-stimulant. Honestly, I was a bit uncomfortable with this whole scenario, I was not really into ‘alternative healing’ outside of nutrition, pathetic that nutrition is considered alternative, but I also knew that I had nothing to lose. I had begun to trust that the Universe was always presenting me with opportunities for my growth so I went with it.
So the next day, Doug brought his friend Neilah to my house. Neilah blew me away. She was the first person to really expose me to the idea of being able to feel another person’s body energetically. First, she had me complete a Zyto Compass scan which I now offer because it is truly amazing! The software scan recommended the best Young Living products to address my energetic needs. Up until this point, I had not yet gotten a normal AMAS (cancer screening) result. For the previous 2 months I had been working with Mark Mincolla, adjusting my diet and finding the right supplements to support immune health and to kill the cancer. I was so stunned by the Zyto Compass results. The highest ranked product was an anti-tumor oil! The second product was anti-spasmodic which made so much sense as the only symptom I had was a low grade tremor in my right arm and occasional numbness. The third product was anti-fungal, the 4 th was high dose vitamin C and the 5th product was a blend called Immupower. On the surface this sure seemed like a pretty great tool but I was still skeptical thinking maybe it was rigged? Next, my friend Traci used the Zyto. Her results were completely different than mine and really lined up with what she needed even though Doug and Neilah knew nothing about her but her name. I was intrigued. Next Neilah, who was sitting close to me, touched her own head exactly where the tumor was in my own and said “is it here?”. Wow. Did she really just do that? This was turning into an interesting day…
Next Neilah started the raindrop treatment. The raindrop involves first lying face up on a massage table while 9 specific oils are applied to the feet. This is related to reflexology. The theory behind reflexology is that our feet and hands are connected to the various organs, glands and systems in our body (reflexology chart) and by applying pressure and, in this case, therapeutic-grade essential oils to the feet, it can directly impact healing in the organ or system in need in the body. Next, the same 9 oils are applied to the spine. Interestingly, Neilah commented that I developed a bright red line down my spine as a result. I didn’t feel this but Traci took a picture of it to show me. Neilah said that she often saw that in people with a lot of medications in their bloodstream. She told me that medications are often stored in the spine (as are viruses and bacteria lying dormant until the immune system gets stressed). I had certainly taken a lot of medications in the previous few months between anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds, steroids, anesthesia etc all from my diagnosis and subsequent surgery. Neilah told me that the healing effects could manifest and/or last up to a week. She told me to drink a lot of water. I honestly didn’t feel anything at that moment and went on with my day. Later that night, the effects became OBVIOUS!!!!
I had to attend a parent meeting at our parish church that night around 7. The speaker was heartfelt. I began to think about my dad who had passed about 4 months earlier and I began to sob. I mean really sob…uncontrollably. I had no tissues on me. I was sitting in the middle of a row, in the middle of the room and thought it would be really awkward to get up and walk out. So I stayed put. A couple of women around me started handing me tissues. No matter what I did I could not stop crying. Finally when the presentation was over, I raced out of the room. I sat in my car and continued crying for a while longer. I knew what was happening. I knew that the grief over my dad’s passing and the fear from my diagnosis that I had held in for these last few months was being unleashed. I let it flow. I also knew that whatever that ‘raindrop’ was had started this. Pretty cathartic event I must admit. All of that destructive emotional energy that my body was clinging to finally had a way out. One week later I had another AMAS test. My previous result was a 152, on the low end of the ‘cancer’ scale but positive for cancer. Anything under 100 was considered normal. I got a 12! Seriously, that is like rock star health right there. I don’t doubt that giving my body more time on the diet and taking the supplements contributed greatly. I even believe I could have had a normal result without the Raindrop, but those oils managed to release something from me that was utterly destructive and pushed me into a whole new level of health and balance.
The Wart and the Infection
A few months later my daughter Kyra got a wart on her thumb. I used lavender oil on it, and to my amazement, the wart healed in about 2.5 weeks. About a month later it came back in the same spot. Lavender didn’t seem to be strong enough so I moved up to clove oil. The clove oil really worked, in fact, the area around the wart began to turn yellowish. I kept it covered with a bandaid but Kyra, being 5, would peel off the bandaid at school. So even though it was healing really well, it got infected because the bandaid was removed and she was picking at it. One Saturday morning around 8 a.m. she came to me complaining that her thumb really hurt. I looked at it and was horrified! Her thumb was red, hard to the touch, and painful. The pediatrician’s office wasn’t open for another 30 minutes so I reached out to my Young Living upline who told me to apply the Thieves blend around (but not on) the area. I planned to do this just until the doctor’s office opened to get Kyra an antibiotic. After applying Thieves, I KID YOU NOT, the swelling, redness and pain were gone in 10 minutes! I never called the doctor’s office because the crisis was averted before the office even opened. Mike and I were both stunned, the wart has never come back, and we were impressed.
Respiratory Issues
I started sharing what I was learning with close friends. One of my friends told me her son was having trouble sleeping because of a hacking dry cough. I gave her Ravinstara oil to try and it worked really well. Her daughter also had asthma issues and often needed a nebulizer. She purchased RC oil (stands for respiratory congestion) and still uses it to this day in her daughter’s diffuser at night. My friend suggested I start selling Young Living, but I was still hesitant because I really hate sales…
Saving My Dog’s Eye
This is an amazing story. About a year after we got our shih tzu, Joy, she developed a corneal ulcer. Unfortunately, it ruptured. This is a vet emergency. When the ulcer ruptured all the fluid drained from her eye and she was in a lot of pain. I got her to the vet immediately. The first vet in the lobby took one look at her and said she had a 1% chance of keeping the eye and 0% chance of ever seeing out of it again. Not good news for a young dog. The second vet scheduled her for surgery to remove the eye 2 days later and sent me home with a serum made from her own blood to drop in the eye (which I think helped) and pain meds. I asked if it was ok to try the oils and she said that we had nothing to lose. I began rubbing frankincense and 3 Wise Men oils around the orbital bone of her eye (but not in it), and on the pads of her paws. I also gave her Ningxia Red juice (Young Living) that strengthens the immune system, supports eye health as well as so many other benefits. Interestingly since then, Joy will only drink the juice if she is not feeling well. Dogs are pretty good at following their intuitive needs. Two days later (scheduled eye-removal surgery day) I brought Joy to the vet and she was holding her eye open. The vet said clearly she didn’t need to remove the eye but that she still couldn’t see out of it. She sent me home, I kept doing what I was doing, and 4 days later I brought her for a recheck…and she could SEE. Joy still has a grey speck in the cornea that she sees around but wow is that a great result! Young Living saved Joy’s eye, her eyesight, and a hefty vet bill for me.
No More Crow’s Feet and Improved Vision?
I rub frankincense around my eyes twice a day. I used to have crow’s feet but not anymore! Frankincense is an inexpensive but stunning skin tonic! My skin not only has no wrinkles, rarely a blemish, but it also glows. Neilah, who has now become a dear friend, told me a couple of years ago that she was able to correct her vision with Ningxia Red juice, frankincense and myrrh oils. Neilah is about 60 years old and every time I had seen her she wore glasses. After about a year of this combination, Neilah successfully passed her driving eyesight test without glasses for the first time in years! She showed off the amazing results with her glasses-free Facebook photo. Now Mike had worn glasses or contacts since I met him 20 years ago. Even longer. Colds Gone Before They Get Started
As soon as any of us start to feel that telltale tickle in our throats we start taking Young Living’s Inner Defense pills. We take 3-4 at the start of a cold. We also take about 3 ounces of Ningxia Red and a couple of sprays of Thieves spray in the throat and by the next morning the cold has vanished. Word of advice, attack your colds early because if you wait too long, you will miss your window and have to ride it out.
Tantrum and Meltdown Relief
My wonderful Kyra was prone, for a time, to meltdowns and tantrums. We started putting a drop of Peace & Calming in our hands and having her smell it. It worked like a charm and pulled her immediately out of her fits. Every parent and teacher should have a bottle of Peace & Calming!
Better, Deeper Sleep
Mike was always a restless sleeper. He had particular trouble falling back asleep if he woke in the middle of the night. He found significant relief with inhaling lavender or Peace & Calming before bed and then he found Rutavala. The Rutavala blend has been incredible for sleep troubles for both him, and my occasional insomnia.

Wholesale Member Accounts: entitles you to a 24% discount on your products. The way I see it is that I would tell friends about any great products I found, with Young Living, I actually receive a commission for something I would be doing anyway. The basic is $40 (pretty much what you’d pay to join BJs but Young Living’s is a one-time fee as long as you place one order per year worth 50 PV –about $50). Unless you have a specific issue that you are trying to address, this collection has an oil for most situations and comes with a diffuser. This is a seriously great deal! Step 3: Fill in your personal information. Please note that if you have selected the Wholesale member account you’ll need to provide your Social Security number for IRS purposes. This is the single biggest hurdle I see new members face. Please understand that your taxable income is only reported to the IRS if you receive $600 in commissions in a calendar year. You will not receive this level of commissions unless you are actually engaging this as a business. Do not let this stop you from this option!
Step 4: If you have selected the Wholesale Member account (a very wise choice), you will now select your starter kit. The basic is $40 but I also strongly encourage you to choose the Everyday Oil Collection for $150 which also comes with a diffuser. Anyone who enrolls directly under me with the Everyday Oil Collection will receive a Quick Reference Guide for Using Essential Oils.
Step 5: Set up your optional Essential Rewards Program (ER) if you wish, which entitles you to reduced rate shipping, provides you with a monthly delivery of products that can be switched each month and earns you points toward products. At first you earn 10% in points on your product total. After 6 months, you earn 15% and thereafter 20%. A point is worth a dollar on most products.
